The 3-message sequence that turns a one-time client into a regular
Most salon clients don't ghost you — they just never get a reason to come back. Fix that with three messages.
The 3-message sequence that turns a one-time client into a regular
Most salon clients don't ghost you — they just never get a reason to come back. Fix that with three messages.
You did great work. The client left happy, tipped well, maybe even snapped a photo. Then you never saw them again.
It's not personal — it's just the absence of a nudge. Most people won't book again on their own, not because they didn't love your service, but because life gets in the way and you slipped their mind. A simple three-message sequence changes that without feeling pushy or robotic.
Message 1: The same-day thank-you (send within 2 hours of their appointment)
This message does two things at once: it makes the client feel remembered, and it opens a channel for conversation before the warm feeling fades.
Keep it short and specific — mention what you actually did for them. Something like:
"Hey [Name]! So glad you came in today — that balayage is going to look amazing once it fully settles. If you have any questions about aftercare, just message me here. 💛"
Specific beats generic every time. "Great seeing you!" gets ignored. Referencing their actual service shows you were paying attention.
Message 2: The check-in (send 5–7 days later)
By now, they've lived with their hair, nails, or skin treatment for almost a week. They've gotten compliments (or maybe a question or two). This is the perfect moment to check in.
This message isn't a booking pitch — it's genuine follow-up. Something like:
"Hey [Name]! Just checking in — how's your hair holding up after the treatment? Any questions or things you want to tweak next time?"
That last phrase — "next time" — does quiet work. It assumes there is a next time without pressuring them. Most clients who reply to this message will book again. Those who don't are still being warmed up for Message 3.
Message 3: The rebook prompt (send 3–4 weeks later)
Now you earn the rebook. By this point their roots might be showing, their polish is chipping, or their skin is due for another treatment. They already trust you. They just need the door opened.
Try something like:
"Hey [Name]! It's been about a month since your last visit — we're heading into [season] so slots are filling up fast. Want me to hold a time for you?"
A few things make this work:
- It's timely. You're messaging right when they probably need you again.
- It creates soft urgency. "Slots are filling up" is true and relevant — no manipulation needed.
- It asks a simple yes/no question. Easier to respond to than "check our booking link."
If they say yes, send the link or offer a time directly. If they don't reply, no worries — let it rest and try again in another month. You're building a relationship, not chasing a sale.
Why this sequence works when one-off promos don't
A single promotional blast — "20% off this weekend!" — might get a few bites, but it doesn't build loyalty. What builds loyalty is the feeling that someone is paying attention to them specifically. This three-message sequence mimics what a great stylist naturally does for their top clients: follows up, checks in, and remembers when it's time to come back in.
The magic is in the spacing and the tone. You're not spamming. You're showing up three times in a month in a way that feels human, not automated — even if you're using a tool to help you send it.
Tactic: Template it once, personalize it forever
Write your three message templates now, while you're thinking about it. Leave placeholders for the client's name and the specific service. Every new client gets the same reliable sequence, but each message still feels personal because you're swapping in real details.
Keep them saved somewhere you can copy-paste fast — or better yet, have someone (or something) send them for you on schedule.
