Stop losing AI consulting leads who ghost after demos

Five tactics to keep prospects warm after that first demo so they actually convert.

You nailed the demo. They said "this is exactly what we need." Then… silence. No reply to your follow-up email. No response to your voice note. Just a ghost.

For AI consultants, this is the most common and most painful part of the sales cycle. The demo itself isn't the problem — the gap between demo and decision is where deals go to die. Here's how to close that gap.

1. Send a same-day recap, not a "just checking in" email

Most consultants wait a day or two, then send a vague "following up on our conversation" message. By then, the prospect has moved on mentally.

Instead, send a tight, personalized recap within two hours of the demo ending. Include the three specific pain points they mentioned, the exact outcome you'd deliver, and a single clear next step. When a prospect reads something that mirrors their own words back at them, it reignites the momentum. Skip the pleasantries — get to the value in the first line.

2. Give them something useful before they've paid you a cent

Ghosting often happens because the prospect isn't sure the ROI is real yet. A free micro-deliverable — a one-page audit of their current AI readiness, a sample workflow diagram, or even a short Loom walking through one quick win they could implement today — shifts you from "vendor" to "trusted expert."

This doesn't have to take you hours. Pick one insight from the demo and turn it into a concrete artifact. The goal is to make them feel the value before they've signed anything. That feeling is what gets you a reply.

3. Follow up across more than one channel

If you only send emails, you're at the mercy of their inbox. AI consultants who close deals faster typically follow a simple multi-touch sequence:

  • Day 0: Personalized recap email (see tactic 1)
  • Day 2: A short WhatsApp or LinkedIn voice note — conversational, no pressure
  • Day 5: A relevant article, case study, or quick thought that connects to their specific problem
  • Day 10: A direct, low-stakes message: "Is this still on your radar, or should I check back another time?"

That last message works surprisingly well. It respects their time, signals confidence, and gives them an easy way to either re-engage or pump the brakes honestly. Either answer is better than silence.

4. Address the unspoken objection head-on

Prospects ghost because they have a concern they don't want to voice — usually cost, internal buy-in, or fear that AI consulting won't actually stick. They'd rather disappear than have an awkward conversation.

Your job is to name the objection for them. In your day-five touchpoint, try something like: "A lot of teams I work with worry about whether leadership will actually adopt the tools we build together — happy to share how we've handled that if it's a concern." You're not being pushy. You're being a consultant — diagnosing the problem before they've articulated it. That kind of message gets replies because it shows you understand the real friction.

5. Create a short-term reason to decide

Open-ended timelines are ghosting fuel. If there's no urgency, a decision can always wait until next week — and next week never comes.

Build in a natural, honest reason to move sooner. That could be your availability ("I'm onboarding two new clients in the next three weeks and want to make sure I have bandwidth for you"), a relevant moment for their business ("Q3 planning is coming up — if you want AI embedded in that process, we'd need to start soon"), or a time-limited offer on your discovery package. The key word is honest — manufactured urgency backfires. Find the real reason it makes sense to move now, and say it plainly.

Following up well is a skill, but it's also just a lot of repetitive operational work — writing messages, timing touchpoints, tracking who got what and when. That's exactly the kind of task you shouldn't be doing manually.

If you want to delegate your lead follow-up sequence — drafting messages, sending reminders, keeping track of where each prospect is in your pipeline — your Sidekyk can handle it for you over WhatsApp. No new software to learn, no CRM to maintain. Just message your Sidekyk what you need, and it gets done. Try it at sidekyk.ai.
